During the course of years of studying and learning 7 healing techniques, it has been told to me for decades to protect myself, to surround myself with white light when doing healing work, so the “bad” energies can’t come in and mess things up. It has seemed contradictory to the “I create my own reality” and “there are no victims” belief. If I am not a victim, and I create my own reality, why do I need to protect myself? I am glad this question was posed.
I’ve studied with amazing healers who tell me to say prayers of protection, and to surround myself with white light. And I wonder why?
You have just been exposed to a common belief in the healing world. Those who aren’t fully in line with how things truly work, still hang onto the belief that there are bad things that can get you. Those you have been around do not fully understand that they are the creators of their world. They evoke the protection from outside of themselves. And that is okay, as the main ingredient for protection is to believe that you are not in danger. If the white light allows them to feel safe, then they can further their skill and help others in a new way. If they believe in the boogy man lurking and do not protect themselves, they diminish the skill they are attempting to offer. If a person doesn’t believe in the boogy man, then there is no need to protect against it. If a person who doesn’t believe in the boogy man begins protection rituals because others suggest it, that is a conflict within. Who do they trust most, themselves or another. Many actually trust others more than themselves. It takes time to trust self above and beyond any one else. All your lives you have been molded to trust others and to distrust yourself. Rarely is any child praised and lavished attention upon when they act on that which is within, when in conflict to do what they are told. Most parents do not relish giving up that control in their children. And the belief ensues that other people know more about what is best for you than you do. As an adult it is important to begin to develop your own self-trust. Many find themselves caught up in this trap during their teen years. They want to trust self, feel compelled to make their own decisions, but they are still under the thumb of parents who want to keep control of their child. This is the base of many teen/parent conflicts.
As for white light protection in the healing world, it is important to look at the possibility that you, too, have an “I’m a victim” belief lurking inside. That you, too, do not fully trust your own judgment and decisions. Once you are solid with your understanding that there are no boogy men, and even if there were, you could handle it, then you will no longer be in conflict with this practice of protection. You will fully be able to allow others their belief, their practices, but not join in. You are doing fine. Trust yourself and what you know to be truth. It is your truth, even if it is not another’s truth, it is important to be solid on “your truth”.
